4-H Field Trip

The lower school hit the road for a trip out to the Holiday Lake 4-H Camp Wednesday. We began the day investigating various rocks and minerals, and then hiked over to a nearby stream where students collected samples and examined the local aquatic life- crawfish, water insects, salamanders, and more. The day came to a close with a canoeing lesson on Holiday Lake and the ever popular “Rubber Ducky Game”.

A big thank you from NVS to Mrs. Roy who wrote the grant for this wonderful opportunity and the Holiday Lake 4-H Center! J

Michael, Gabe, and Landon catching samples of aquatic life in the 4-H creek. A student actually caught a baby catfish farther downstream!

NIKE!

8th grade world history has been studying Ancient Greece and recently learned about the Persian Wars. The class developed a scene for each important event and battle of the wars, then acted them out. They were victorious with sequencing the battles and everyone conquered the quiz shortly thereafter!

Zach, Claire, and Faith are ready for battle!

Amazement Square Exploration!

With the snow finally gone, the lower school was able to complete the second session of the Amazement Square outreach program we took part in this winter. During the first session students experimented with making paint bombs here at New Vistas School.  The second session allowed students to visit Amazement Square in downtown Lynchburg and spend the afternoon exploring and experimenting.

In no time Zach had mastered shooting  hoops using only the air flow of a hair dryer.

Catherine, Makayla, and Travis experiment with electricity.

Jay, Jaiden, and Emelia strike a pose while making a huge impression.
